I was working on a Scrivener project when the update for 3.1.5.0 popped up, and I immediately downloaded it. Now none of my scrivener files will open up.
I have Windows 11, and I already tried restarting my computer, which did not help.
Does the software open at all, and can it create new projects that open and close successfully more than once? Just trying to narrow down what could be going on. If you can get it open to a project (even just creating a blank test project), then go into File ⸠Options... and in the General: Warnings tab, enable the option to show logging, then restart the software and try to load a project that wonât open.
That will show more detail on what is going on in a separate logging window, and might give some clues as to what is happening.
Okay, in that case instead of trying to set this option, open a File Explorer window and navigate the Scrivener install folder (this will be C:\Program Files\Scrivener3 by default), and double-click the âScrivenerLog.batâ launcher, instead of the normal âScrivener.exeâ icon. That will force the logging window open even without the setting.
Itâll open up that initial window, but wonât actually open a project. Iâve tried opening recent files and existing files from it, and neither of those work.
Okay, that sounds more to me like the software isnât opening at all, rather than anything project related.
Try this: back in the install folder, find a subfolder named âtexttospeechâ and rename it. After doing that, try launching normally (without the .bat file).
Regardless of how I try to open a project, it brings up the Scriv icon, says the whole âloading icons,â âloading fonts,â âlocating spell checker engine,â and then âloading project: location,â but then it just stops and doesnât actually open anything.
All right, well I donât really know what further to suggest without additional information from the logs. If that canât be done, it would probably be most expedient to simply uninstall and reinstall from a fresh download. That will wipe your settings, but in that case that might be just what needs to be done. Hopefully you have them backed up into a file from some point recent though, and if so you could try importing them if it starts up normally with default settings.
