'use date' backup names

is it possible to change the naming convention of the backup files from:

projectname.bakYYYY ( shortened for reading)

to:

projectname_YYYY.bak ?

I find it easier to read and differentiate by file name extensions.

Right now each backup is its own extension

Thanks

It sounds like you might have extensions hidden in Explorer, so you can’t see that these all end in “.zip” (or are folders ending in .scriv if compression is disabled). It is valid for a file to contain a dot somewhere in it, it’s only the last dot that matters for determining the extension.

You are correct, ‘show extensions’ was turned off.

However, would it be possible to insert some sort of delimiter like an underscore or another dot between “bak” and the date to make legibility better?

right now it looks like this:

“ProjectOne.bak2016-01-02T21-25_1”

Thanks

I’ll put it on the list of things to consider for the next major update. It’s not the kind of thing you want to change midstream if that naming convention is important to the functioning of the software. In this case we scan the filenames to determine which old backup(s) should be deleted, based on the roll-off settings, after successfully creating the new one.
