User Model feedback (What I expect)

Hey there, great job on this! I’ve been having a blast writing and it’s really helping me organize my work at this point. That said, I do some programming myself and one big thing I’ve been covering lately is the User Model, and making a program do what the users expect it to do. I thought I’d give some feedback on places where the User and Program models didn’t match up in my usage, and give you some food for thought. I’ll keep posting here if I run across more.

-Using an imported template such as the NaNoWriMo template is not obvious at first glance: I expected a context menu on clicking the template list, or an import template button, or similar. Did not realize template was essentially the same as a project for the starting prompt.

-Leaving a page and going back, it would be preferred/expected to go back to the same spot. For example, in NaNoWriMo project, reading through the guide and then checking out different features, I would have expected to return to where I was in the guide. Especially helpful when typing up long sections, then referring to notes. The split pane helps alleviate this problem, but isn’t perfect (I can’t split it to show my location notes, my character notes, AND my current scene).

-Ctrl-click (or shift-click) to select multiple note cards or entries when in outline view doesn’t allow me to set the status of multiple items. In my case it was because I imported some scenes that I wanted to do it, but also if I am in a groove I’m not likely to remember to update it to first draft status before moving to the next scene.

-I’m really not sure what “Page Break Before” actually does, as it doesn’t seem to create a page break before a folder or text upon compile, as I had hoped. This might be a bug and I’m also posting it as such just in case.

In all, just a few small things. The usage is pretty straightforward and some of these things might be thing you just haven’t implemented yet, but I was hoping feedback like this would be helpful. Thanks for the program, though, I’m really loving it!

After you have selected the multiple items, if you right click a pop up menu appears. You can change the status and label of multiple items at once that way.

Duly noted, thank you. I was using the status setting on the right hand side (Inspector panel) which only does the one currently displayed in the inspector… which makes complete sense, now that I look back on it. Thanks for the response!

This has already been reported and should be fixed in an upcoming release.
