Using Scrivener on two Macs, one old and one newer.

Hi,

I currently use Scrivener 2 on my old (2009) Macbook, as 2 obviously does not work on Catalina that I have on my iMac.

If I were to upgrade to Scrivener 3, would the files work from one to the other? I doubt that it is possible to run 3 on my Macbook you see.

For simplicity’s sake, I want to run version 2 on my Macbook and 3 on my iMac and use the same document on both.

Anybody have any experience of this?

Thanks.

What operating system is your old Mac running? Scrivener 3 will work with macOS 10.12 or above, so if your old Mac can run Sierra, you’re good to download Scrivener 3 on that one.

If it’s too old a model to run Sierra though, then yes, you can work with your projects between v.2 and v.3. However, while Scrivener 3 can convert v.2 projects to its updated file format upon opening, Scrivener 2 can’t support Scrivener 3’s file format. This means that you’ll have to use the File > Export > as Scrivener 2 Project… menu command when saving your project in v.3 if you plan to then open it in v.2.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I will be honest that was what I was expecting, but I just wanted confirmation.

Unfortunately, my old Mac is 10.10, so will not be able to run Scrivener 3.

So my choices are using one version or the other, or both and transfer between them.

Again, thank you for your answer.
