Is there a way to use Scrivener external folder sync to synchronize the project’s “Document Notes” and/or the “Project Notes” to the external sync’d RTF formatted files?
I only see the “Comments & Footnotes” are synchronized to the RTF files currently, but don’t see a way to do the same with the “Document Notes”.
If that’s not currently possible, what’s the recommended way to sync the Document Notes that show up in the Scrivener Index Cards in the corkboard view of the project documents? I want to view and modify the private notes I keep for myself that I see in the Scrivener index cards of the corkboard view but also then sync those private index card notes to the external sync’d RTF files, but I’m not sure how.
Unfortunately, the file metadata (Synopsis, Document Notes, Project Notes, etc.) does not synchronize. Once you break down the Scrivener package into individual RTF files – which is what Sync to External Folder effectively does – there’s no way to maintain the connection between the metadata and the original file. So trying to edit the metadata outside of Scrivener and then synchronize it back into the project could potentially create a hideous mess.
Depending on the notes, you could put them in a variety of places that do synchronize properly. In-line annotations would be the simplest, as those are fully supported by RTF and should transfer back and forth just fine. For longer notes, you might pull them out to separate files, which would then synchronize.
If you only needed to view this material – for instance if you needed to refer to an outline while you work – you could use the Compile options to pull it out, but that won’t work if you need to bring changes back into Scrivener.
