Using with Dragon Dictate

Actually works pretty well, but here’s a helpful hint.

The mouse and the typing cursor can get out of sync, and that slows down the typing.

Here’s what you’ll see: he’ll be dictating and moving along a great speed, and then for no apparent reason, you’ll say something expecting it to appear instantly on the screen — and nothing happens, at first: and then, slowly, painfully, one at a time, the letters of the words you spoke appear and then about halfway through the sentence, they burst onto the screen whole.

There are two workarounds: one, move your mouse or trackpad — that re-syncs the voice and mouse for that spoken phrase., Unfortunately have to do it for every new phrase that you speak.

Solution 2 is switch to the text pad document that Dragon dictate opens for you, say a phrase, — it instantaneously appears in text pad — and then switch back to your Scrivener document. And that seems to resent re-sync the mouse and voice for longer.

This is probably a Dragon Dictate problem, not a Scrivener problem. I’m calling it to Dragon Dictate’s attention as well. And hopefully Scrivener will too

Have you tried Enhanced Dictation in Yosemite? Haven’t noticed any lag/issues.

Nice blog, Brian. Some interesting thoughts.

Also discovered:

In Index Cards, if you hold down the ctrl key, then saying New Line and New Paragraph into Dragon Dictate works in a Scrivener index card, which is pretty handy. I find it trivial and non-thought-breaking to keep a finger near the control key, as opposed to having to figure out the right combos with more than one finger.

Solution 3: The command „cache document“ syncs the document again.

Thanks
