So for that, anyone can use folder sync however they find it applicable to do so, no matter if they use WordStar on DOS, an IRIS workstation, Palm Pilots, Macs or AlphaSmarts. Whether by sharing the folder with a collaborator and having them make edits to the files, or syncing it to your phone and editing the files with a text editor, or to scriptwriting program that can edit Fountain files, it doesn’t take much to support the technology of file editing.

Part of what makes it such an adaptable and useful feature is how simple it works on the user side. It’s nothing more than a folder with some text files in it. You can do all kinds of stuff with that idea.

I’m just interested in how I can use the sync capabilities and/or mobile editing functions with my Windows desktop and Android mobile.

Oh okay, yes, Android at some point, once v3 is settled down.

As for technique, I’m not thinking of any really good threads off the top of my head. The basic idea is to get the sync folder onto your phone, edit the files there, and then get the sync folder back to your computer where Scrivener can see them. It strictly uses modification dates on the files to know when to sync—so any condition that will cause the modification dates to be higher than they were will cause it to sync. Most people prefer to put the sync folder into a synchronised area, like a Dropbox or Google Drive folder. That way you can edit them right from the phone without much thought given to the process, and the changes end up right back on the computer.

I keep seeing “use the compare…” but i have yet to find a button or option within Scrivener to compare…period!!
Not in the texts not in the snapshots, no where that i could find.

Will someone please tell me where this option/button is. Do i just have the wrong version of Scrivener???

Comparison is addressed within the built-in tutorial in the Help menu, in the short section on snapshots.

And of course the documentation for the Inspector tab itself, where snapshots are viewed, discusses comparison in §13.6.4, pg. 275.

You’re over-complicating matters! I’d just stick to the ‘KISS’ principle:

Use the backup option within Scrivener to create backup files (auto-zipped if you want). Put these wherever you think is safest.

Use the snapshot features in Scrivener to make snapshots within Scrivener. Compare these within Scrivener.

Use the Export/Import feature in Scrivener to export individual parts of your project to any external editor that does not have a native integration. Edit the file. Import it back into Scrivener.

When you have a document that has a snapshot open in your editor, select the snapshot tab of the inspector panel. Your snapshots are shown in the top half of the panel and, if you select a snapshot it is shown below that. Above the list of snapshots, just above the date, is a button that says “Compare”.
