Watch out list?

Is there a way to develop a word (or phrase) list that will flag what I put on the list (as if a typo) that way I can have the program immediately flag words that I tend to overuse/use incorrectly?

I don’t know if there’s a way to get it to pop up automatically for you, but you can keep track of the number of times you use a particular word in a document. Go to Text Statistics in the Project menu and click the triangle next to “Word Frequency.” This will tell you the number of times every word in the visible document has been used.

Word Frequency is not actually any help to me. I would like to create a list with word such as “look, step, felt” or phrases such as “made my way; I saw; I heard” that way when I type them they would either flag right away like a typo or I could hit a button and it would search the whole document for anything on the list. Right now I have to word search one at a time and if I forget to do that or forget to search for one of the things on my list then it slips through the cracks.

You could use the substitution feature for this.

In Tools/Options/Corrections. check “Enable existing substitutions.” Then press the “edit substitutions” button to get the list. Add your deprecated phrases and have them auto-substituted by, say, the same thing with XX added. That string then gets flagged as a typo by the spellchecker. When you don’t want to do that any more, you can just turn off those substitutions, or turn substitutions off globally.

Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?

That’s close. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.
