What Is Your Favourite Scrivener Feature, and What Is The Most Useful Feature?

As I understand it, on MacOs Scrivenings mode is “open a single editor control and dynamically link in all the Scrivenings that should be displayed.” As a result, it feels like you’re editing a single document – you can select past a document boundary, navigate through the entire Scrivening view easily, etc.

On Windows, which uses Qt (and Qt doesn’t have the same thing), what we get is a stack of editor controls, one per document in the Scrivening view. This explains some of the funkiness – you can’t select across the document boundary because you’d actually be selecting across editor control instances, etc.

I am counting myself lucky that I have not (yet) experienced working in Scrivenings Mode as frustrating in any way.

Scrivenings is the feature that made me want to use Scrivener, as far back as the original Windows v1 beta. It’s so fundamental to how I like to write.

That having been said, one of the coolest features (albeit one I use sparingly) is linguistic focus. Using that to highlight just dialogue to see if, without the context of wider narrative and speaking tags, I can still tell which character is saying what lines is a fantastic quick check while editing to make sure I’ve not fluffed the voices or accidentally merged or blurred my characters.

But… the only feature that has so far prompted me to send KB an email to tell him that I think he’s a hero (and Mrs PF thinks is proof that Keith should be put in charge of all software) is “text tidying”, and the “remove two spaces after a full stop” function in particular!

Ok, that made me curious, since it could be useful…
…yeah. Only in English (or other quote-marks-dialogue languages)
