Hi! Maybe I missed this information somewhere, sorry if that’s the case.
I was wondering when I might be able to expect scrivenings mode implemented – will it be in a beta version? And if so, any idea as to how far away? Really missing that feature in the beta… (And from what I understood, it’s known to not be implemented – isn’t, for example, an unrealized bug).

Scrivenings mode works in the Win 1.9.7 release.
It has not been implemented yet in the Windows beta, and I think it highly unlikely the developers will reveal or commit to any implementation schedule for specific features.
ETA: The good news is, when the new Scrivenings mode is finally released, it will be much better than the 1.9.7 implementation.

The thing about Scrivenings mode on Windows vs Mac is that, on the Mac we are able to edit, copy, highlight etc. across document boundaries. As far as I understand it, KB was able to build it in thanks to the frameworks provided by Apple. Scrivener 1.x is built using Qt4, which not only doesn’t provide those frameworks, but, it would seem didn’t allow LAP and Tiho_D to create them. Hence, in Windows 1.9, you can view your entire Draft à la Scrivenings, but you have to click into each separate document to work on it.
Windows v. 3 is being built with Qt5, which apparently doesn’t include the necessary frameworks to match the capabilities of Mac v.3, but will allow them to build them. However, that must be a huge programming task, to be done in conjunction with re-writing the whole app in the new code base.
So when they say “Scrivenings mode is not implemented yet”, they are referring to the Mac-like editing capabilities. In the current beta, you can work on your entire draft in the same way as in 1.9.
When the code will be in place to allow cross document editing, is anybody’s guess, other than the development team if they have any idea … but they’re not letting on.

Thank you for detailing the differences between current Windows and Mac Scrivenings modes. 
I can already see improvements in the beta, in that paging up or down in Scrivenings mode behaves like a single document would (in 1.9.7, paging up or down moves to the document top or bottom).
One small clarification: In the current beta, editing is not supported in Scrivenings mode at all – Scrivenings is read-only.

Hi! Thanks for the info Jim and xiamenese. I didn’t know about the Scrivener team reworking the PC scrivenings mode to give it more features like the Mac version. That’s exciting. I guess it makes sense, then, why it’s not implemented yet – if it’s something they’re having to redo/rework – so at least I understand that better now.
I only have read-only functionality, too, in scrivenings mode. I thought that was by design and true for everyone with the beta. Is it only true for some people?
