Where is the Ruler?

In a new Draft file, I want to set margins and indents and can’t seem to find a way to enable the ruler. This is the first time I’ve encountered this in a Scrivener project and it is only making me crazy! What obvious thing am I not seeing? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you Vincent. I was finally able to activate the Style menu bar, which had been grayed out, and when that became active, it was possible to select View Ruler, just as you’ve indicated. Whew. So good to have this document working properly! Again, thanks for your response.

I’m curious.
What is that “Style menu bar” ?
And how did it end up grayed out, preventing you to reach the ruler in the menu ? (What did you do so that it became accessible ? – same question, but intended for reverse engineering…)

Most likely it was grayed out because the focus was somewhere other than the Editor, or because the editor pane was in a different view.

Scrivener’s interface has a lot of parts. If you haven’t already, you might have a look at the Interactive Tutorial, available from the Help menu.

I, too, wish I knew precisely what I did or selected to activate the menus. (If that’s the right term.) Almost everything was grayed out until suddenly it wasn’t. I did look at the Interactive Tutorial and searched in the Help Menu, but wasn’t able to find information that seemed to address the problem. It sounds quite possible that the focus wasn’t on the Editor, but how or why, I cannot say. Thanks everyone, for helping!

For those using LaTeX, the fgruler package offers a number of options to control how to display rulers on the page, including options to display the rule in Metric or Imperial (English) units, and a simple option to turn the ruler on/off:

\usepackage[type=user]{fgruler} % Set type=none to turn ruler OFF

See the complete fgruler.PDF file for the complete set of options.

Enjoy!
