Okay, my brain may be addled from doing crowd control at a childrenâs party yesterday, and from baby waking me up all night, and then from being woken up at some ungodly hour by my son so he could open his birthday presents⊠And I know this forum has a tendency for the surreal⊠ButâŠ
What?

One of the mysteries of the universe, for most Brits⊠This explains further. (The gameâs authorities have been accused of trying to expropriate the catchphrase.)

Iâm guessing by now many of you have to be wondering what the term âWho datâ means and how it corresponds to the Superbowl bound New Orleans Saints?
Fabulous question!
Who dat? is the chant used by New Orleans Saints fans. The entire chant is âWho dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Who dat? Who datâ
Okay⊠okay⊠so where does it come from?!?
The term âWho datâ actually goes as far back as the Vaudville acts of the late 1800âs. The phrase was started by jazz and big band performers (Hence, why it pertains to The Saints). In fact, the term was used in many of the most popular jazz and swing songs clear into the mid 1900âs. Performers would yell out âWho Datâ and the crowd responded back âWho dat say who dat?â The âWho datâ joke was used by US Fighter squadrons in WWII. Thereâs your history lesson!
The first team to use the âWho datâ chant was Southern University Jaguars. They would yell âWho dat say dey gonna beat dem Jagsâ
In 1983 The Saints officially adopted the phrase âWho Dat.â Aaron Neville recorded a version of âWhen the Saints Go Marching Inâ and Incorporated âWho Datâ into the song.
The Saints super fans are considered to be âThe Who Dat Nationâ ⊠That term was coined in 2006 when New Orleans played the Dallas Cowboys⊠and won! A commentator yelled âMan thereâs a whole lotta who dat out there.â
So there you have it. When someone asks what all this âwho datâ commotion is all about. You, Doll, know the answer!
