Born and raised in Houston, Texas… so yeah, I’m glad to see the Saints win. Not much of a fan of any sort of football, though.

I’m guessing by now many of you have to be wondering what the term “Who dat” means and how it corresponds to the Superbowl bound New Orleans Saints?
Fabulous question!
Who dat? is the chant used by New Orleans Saints fans. The entire chant is “Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Who dat? Who dat”
Okay… okay… so where does it come from?!?
The term “Who dat” actually goes as far back as the Vaudville acts of the late 1800’s. The phrase was started by jazz and big band performers (Hence, why it pertains to The Saints). In fact, the term was used in many of the most popular jazz and swing songs clear into the mid 1900’s. Performers would yell out “Who Dat” and the crowd responded back “Who dat say who dat?” The “Who dat” joke was used by US Fighter squadrons in WWII. There’s your history lesson!
The first team to use the “Who dat” chant was Southern University Jaguars. They would yell “Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jags”
In 1983 The Saints officially adopted the phrase “Who Dat.” Aaron Neville recorded a version of “When the Saints Go Marching In” and Incorporated “Who Dat” into the song.
The Saints super fans are considered to be “The Who Dat Nation” … That term was coined in 2006 when New Orleans played the Dallas Cowboys… and won! A commentator yelled “Man there’s a whole lotta who dat out there.”
So there you have it. When someone asks what all this “who dat” commotion is all about. You, Doll, know the answer!
