Window not resizing under certain conditions

I wasn’t able to find anything about this in previous threads, apologies if you were aware of this already.

The problem: when a jpg is imported into the research binder, window fails to resize until the file is closed and reopened.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Have a jpg in the desktop
  2. Create a new project (blank template). You can resize.
  3. Drag and drop the jpg to the Research binder. (I used exposé’s go-to-desktop, went back to Scriv, and released the mouse button.)
  4. Select the jpg (i.e. Click the triangle next to Research in teh binder first)
  5. No resizing possible by any method (bottom-right handle, green button), even if you change focus out of the jpg. Minimizing, moving window, adding or removing panes doesn’t help.
  6. Close and reopen the file, now everything works normally

I hope this helps!

Hi,

I can’t reproduce this - it all works fine for me, which suggests it may be down to a particular setting. What version of OS X are you running? Does this happen every time (from your description, I assume it does). If so, could you please open the console (~/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) and then go through the process again - I would expect some errors to get reported on the console (after errors, things can act weird, so that would be the most likely explanation). Could you post any such errors here?

Also, could you please attach your preferences to your reply? To get them, go to Scrivener > Preferences, click on “Show All” if necessary, click on “Manage…” in the bottom-left, and then select “Save preferences…” to save your preferences as a .prefs file - attach that here (or send it to kb-tech-support@literatureandlatte.com). That way I can load your preferences and try again, to see if it is a particular preference that triggers this.

Thanks!
All the best,
Keith

I can’t understand what’s going on… The other day I could replicate it any time. Today, I reopened my work file, tried to resize and didn’t work. Quit Scrivener, retried and everything works, even doing the steps that I outlined in my original post…

Attached are my preferences and below I’m pasting errors from the console. The only thing I see in the console are some messages from Growl. I think that the “attempt to to pop an autorelease pool” coincided with my failed resizing, but the last one doesn’t. Maybe the Writeroom input manager error also coincided, but I don’t have writeroom installed any more, so I think that this is just about an alias without a proper reference.

If it happens again I"ll repost console messages.
