Windows 7 version preference

Hi - I am looking at getting a new computer, custom build, and the company has recommended installing Win 7 Professional over Win 7 Premium (I’m not interested in Win 8.) with specific reference to my use of Scrivener. I haven’t had a chance to ask them their reasoning, but are you able to advise if this is actually necessary?

Thanks
Rebecca

I’m not tech support but Scrivener runs fine on my Win 7 Home Premium 4GB RAM system.

Thanks Stacey, good to know!

For a very brief overview of the versions available, wikipedia to the rescue:

I work as an IT critter supporting Windows workstations and networks and have for the last 12 years. There’s no reason to go for Win 7 Pro over a home edition for a standalone computer. The only reason to install the Professional version is if you need to connect to a domain.

My guess is they make more money selling you professional or have copies in stock they want to get rid of. If, on the other hand, Professional is cheaper from them, there’s no reason not to go with it. It’s otherwise the same as Premium.

Good choice on your behalf to avoid Windows 8.
