Windows Special Character Entry via Keyboard Shortcut on Laptops w/o NumPad

On Windows, if you have a number pad on your keyboard, you can enter all kinds symbols via Alt + numpad code. However, if you have a laptop that does not include a number pad and has no NumLock button, you can’t do this.

Using that approach, in Word, I can enter an æ character from my laptop that has no way using the Alt+code approach.

However, Scrivener doesn’t seem to do that. That would be a really helpful feature. For either the current version or version 3.
