Sorry if this is a repeat for the Wish List…I’m a PC guy with an iPad2. I can’t seem to figure out how to sync the PC version of Scrivener to my iPad via any means to inclue Dropbox. I understand that the Mac version does sych to iPad. Would like to request the PC version sync to iPad as well. I’d be happy to sync to any app such as Index Card or Plaintext or Simplenote.
OR, perhaps the new release of Scrivener for iPad can sych to the Windows PC version? I’ll gladly pay for the app if it does.
You hit the nail on the head with why this doesn’t exist yet. We’ve put the standard synchronisation features on a lower priority track because we feel that when the iPad/iPhone version of Scrivener is released, it will be more useful to have full sync with that instead of an ad hoc system. With limited time to spend on features, it makes more sense to concentrate on that.
In the meanwhile, all the sync tool does for the Mac is automate things a little. You can absolutely do this yourself by take a few extra steps. The File/Export/Files... feature can be used to export chunks of your draft to Dropbox, to plain-text, and there they can be edited with whatever your preferred Dropbox capable text editor is. When you are done, just view your Dropbox folder in Windows Explorer sorting by modification date and copy and paste the changed files back into your project.
I signed up to the forum so I could make a similar request. I would love it if the Windows version would sync to all the Mac additions, iPad, iPod, iPhone etc. I recently started using Simplenote on my iPhone because I thought it was compatible, but I realise now that it isn’t.
I would buy every piece of software available if it synced to Scrivener for Windows (and I had a use for it). But while I’m on a rant I think it would also be great for Scrivener to also have it’s own dictionary and thesaurus. You know, just like Microsoft Word, most useful tool it ever had - I just like the way it’s a part of the software and doesn’t have to open the browser in a separate window.
But this gave me 10+ months of not being able to integrate Scrivener (for Windows) into my workflow. When is the iPad version coming? 2014? I do remember the plans of SfWin to catch up with the SfMac in all features, while it was in beta… and now development is put on a lower priority track due to SfIOS?
A Scrivener (for Mac)-like SYNC functionality would have solved many ad-hoc synchronisation wishes for Windows users with an iPad (a frequent combination). With Dropbox as the intermediate tool/app.
