WISH - Sort Documents

I use Aeon together with both versions of Scrivener and I’d like to be able to keep my documents sorted in line with my Aeon events start dates and times. I don’t know if anybody has found a work-round but if they have it would be great to hear!!!

A human-readable representation of the binder is continually updated in the file project.scrivx in the top level folder for the project. The workaround I use requires reading that file, breaking out its rows and columns, and dumping them into a database table. Definitely agree that sort capability would be a boost for Scrivener.

There’s a sort paragraphs option already. Edit > Sort Paragraphs and Document > Sort and Outline has a bunch of sort features (though you might need to use View > Outliner Columns to make sure the to-be-sorted columns are visisble. Assigning Keywords to documents and then sorting on them in Outline view could be sufficient. Putting your dates/times in Keywords would give you what you want.

Your other option might be to create Collections to group time-related documents together. Yeah I know I abuse Collections but they are so versatile.

Thank you to those above for your suggestions. Appreciated. I’ll have to check my Mac version to see if there is a solution that isn’t available on the Windows version. Essentially though, Aeon Timeline adds specialist custom metadata fields to each document file based on the timeline I’ve created in Aeon Timeline - and I really need to use that as the sort field but, as far as I’m aware, there’s no facility to sort my scrivener files into the same order as my event files in Aeon. And it would be so useful to have that.

On the Mac, we just use the standard behaviour of clicking on a column to sort by it. Click again to sort the other way, then a third time to remove the sort. There are also some notes on how to use this feature to actually sort documents, instead of just displaying them that way, in §12.2.3, Sorting by Columns (pg. 149) of the user manual PDF.
