Word count bar on bottom won't appear on netbook[ADDRESSED]

I am testing Scrivener on two machines:

An HP Pavilion with a 17" monitor, display at 1600x900

An HP Mini 1000 netbook with a 9" monitor, display at roughly 1024x600

I suppose I should also add that I am running both on Linux via wine, which probably throws everything off. However, Scrivener works without any issues on the Pavilion, and the netbook only has one problem…

When I run it on the Pavilion, the typing area contains a status bar at the bottom of the page that lists an auto-updating word and character count. This bar is always there by default.

When I run it on the netbook, that status bar is not present and I can’t find a way to make it display. I do notice, however, that when I use the “vertical split” feature, the bar mysteriously shows up in both panes.

Anyway, I thought I would mention it because the auto word count feature is really useful, even if it is kind of a minor issue. I don’t know that Scrivener was really designed to be used at that low a resolution to begin with, since it’s originally a mac application and I don’t think Macs go that low any more…

Well, it’s not the resolution itself, because I run it on a netbook with the same resolution and have not had this problem. But I’m not at all familiar with Linus or Wine to know if that has some bearing on it.

I can however assure you that it isn’t just the fact that it’s a netbook.

OK, well, that’s good to know.

It might just be a wine/Linux thing… I notice that if I reduce the size of the program window on the Pavilion the word count bar gets swallowed up on the bottom…

An update: the problem is with wine. Wine is expecting the session to be 1024x768 and is sizing the window so the bottom falls below the edge of the screen. So I think this is officially not a scrivener bug.

I’m not sure why you are using Wine at all as there is a native Linux build for Scrivener - although, it is not supported. Have you checked out the Linux posts on this forum? Beta 1.3 is available on Linux.

Unfortunately, I can’t comment on Wine at all.

Can’t get the Linux version to run at all. But it runs beautifully in wine.
