Is it possible to do a word count on multiple chapters? I know there’s some way to export the chapters as one document to Word (theoretically, anyway - I’m not sure if this affects the chapters in the original version). But can you just click on a bunch of them and get a word count?
I think the word count in ‘Edit Scrivenings’ is what you’re looking for.
Thanks, that looks good. Only thing is, I’m not sure if this word count includes only the actual chapters, or all the various notes I’ve taken for myself on characters, ongoing edits to watch out for when I come back around on the edit, notes on countries and customs and names and philosophies, timelines and family trees and so on.
Maybe I could test it by importing a huge document into those notes…
No.
I counted the document I’m working on - or rather, the project, first as All Scrivenings, then as Content Included in Draft, and got 17,000-ish words in both counts.
Then I imported an 11,000-word document and counted again - and again, in both, got 17,000-ish words.
Oh, wait - when I dragged that document up from Research into the Drafts folder, it gave me 28,000-ish words all right.
One small problem, though: it’s in an old version of Word, and Scrivenings has imported it with a lot of ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ and stuff.
I could save it as Text Only - perhaps that would help?
