Work lost... forever?

I’ve just downloaded Scrivner and pro-writing aid at the same time as I heard they were compatible.

I put my 45,000 word manuscript on and was going between both today.

I’m not sure what I have done but only chapter 1 is showing in both. All of the other chapter files are empty. However, if I hover over the top bar it says the correct word-count even though the page its self says word count zero…

My question is… Is my work lost forever?? Has anyone else done this?

Thanks

If the top bar is showing the correct word count, then the words are somewhere in the project. The top bar doubles as a quick search bar, so you can use that to find them. If that doesn’t work, the Find → Search in Project command has more options, including letting you look in the project Trash.

The most likely issue is that you simply changed the view options in a way that hides the text of the document. The second most likely answer is that you accidentally moved either yourself or the document to a different location. Either way, the search will find the material.

If you haven’t already, I’d recommend taking a look at our Interactive Tutorial, available from the Help menu. It will help you figure out what might have happened.

If the chapter files are showing up but the contents are appearing blank, this might be a cloud issue. Is your work saved to OneDrive, Dropbox, or another cloud service? If so, you’ll want to make sure files are set to be available locally (OneDrive) or available offline (Dropbox). Different services have different parlance but regardless, locate the Scrivener project in File Explorer, right-click the .scriv folder, and select the appropriate option to make sure the project is not online-only.

My Scrivener gave me a scare recently when I found I now had two copies of my project in the Recent Projects list. I had loaded up the copy that was saved a year ago before I realized there were two.

Could your Scrivener be loading an older copy? It might be worth checking your drives for .scriv files.
