The back-up doesn’t save to the standard folder in the Library or the local Dropbox folder I created. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Exactly how did you create the Zip backup file? An automatic “on open” and/or “on close” of the project?
What is the exact error message?
What do you mean “Library”?
Exactly what target location did you specify? Different location from where you keep the Scrivener project?
Fyi, best not to put backups in synced locations. as a flaw in the backup file (accidental delete, deliberate but regretted delete, corruption, etc.) gets immediately synced to the sync server and “poof” your backup is gone. Use proper backups.
Some further things to try:
- Another disk, as it looks like you are trying to two locations on the same volume. Are you short on space?
- Do other operations that make use of zip work?

File ▸ Back Up ▸ Back Up To...with the zip option enabled. - Can you save a template with
File ▸ Save as Template...

- Can you back up other projects, try something very simple, like a new Blank project with a couple of words typed into it.
