Zoo City by Lauren Beukes

Lazy review because I’m tired

Just finished reading this startling novel. Just brimming with imagination, grounded with grim pull-no-punches realism… ah. I loved it. A cross between a classic noire thriller, a twist beautifully executed science-fiction and a foundation of superscription and real-world violence. Set in near future / alternate future South Africa, I found this book refreshingly ‘new’. The pace is perfect, having me unable to put the book down as the story builds to a grim climax. Probably one of the best-paced novels I’ve read in a long time.
