2.0 and late October -- bad combo?

How late in October?

In a couple of places, Ioa and “Not Kevin” say the goal is to get the next version of Scrivener out by “late October” for NaNoWriMo.

Am I the only wrimo here who thinks this is going to be VERY, VERY bad for the word count?

I looked at the new features… this is going to take some getting used to. This is going to require DAYS of screwing around… er… I mean… evaluating the new features to see how they fit in my work flow. If late means after Oct. 28… I’m in deep doo doo on the word count.

If we are talking October 31, then

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT’S HOLY, WAIT UNTIL NOV. 30 AT MIDNIGHT!!

And I do mean in MY time zone.

Ahem.

Apollo, we sincerely hope not! Keep in mind the screenshots you see in the announcement, and indeed the wording itself are all showcasing some of the bigger changes. The default 2.0 interface will, icons aside, look remarkably identical to what you are already used to. Working in it will be, by and large, the same experience you are already fluent in. At this level, the hope is that similar-but-even-smoother is how it should feel. If you rely on point-to-click menus a lot, that will be the biggest area of acclimation as the menus have been more logically arranged, meaning things have moved about. Some shortcuts have changed, but not too many.

As for all the wonderful new stuff, there is no need to play with the toys until you have time to do so. And hopefully you will. While there is a lot of new stuff, it isn’t all “whole new program” type stuff. Freeform corkboards are the kind of thing you can probably completely learn in a few minutes. You already know the important and tricky stuff from regular corkboards, like what an index card is.

If you must procrastinate, however, then I suggest you disable your Internet connexion until the 30th. Then when you re-connect with the world, viola! Scrivener 2.0 has been released!

P.S. I know this isn’t entirely serious, but should I move this to the Nano board?

I hope 2.0 hits the world on October 20th. I think the British people will need some cheering-up on that day…

I thought about putting it in the NaNo board but I felt this more of a “fluff” thing (i.e. Latte) than a serious NaNo thing but move it if you like.

Cheek!! :imp:
Youre the only human on the planet that wants 2.0s launch delayed. Something wrong with y`? :open_mouth:
Flippant Fluff

You are making TWO assumptions. I want it out NOW. Mid-October is OK.

Apollo16

Too late! Yve cast yourself as a weirdo aboard Scriv. Youll have to live with it. :imp:
Anyway…assuming youre not a cat or a human, what are y exactly? Dont tell me youre a god, that`s hackneyed.
Pertinent Fluff

Perhaps?

Second to last set of humans to walk about on the Moon.

If thats the case, then theyd better avail themselves of two more licences for Scriv. :open_mouth:
Fluff

Actually, I do have two licenses. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the handle, I actually met the astronaut (Young) who collected the Apollo 16 lunar soils that I used for my Ph.D. thesis. We had a great chat.

The link below has pictures of Young and Duke gathering some of the samples. Most of my work centered on the materials returned from the third EVA.

I was a kid playing in my cardboard spaceship when they gathered the samples.

Fascinating stuff Apollo.
Worrying thing is though, it puts you in orbit with vic-k. He`s a Cosmos junkie. He became addicted on Oct 4th 1957 (his birthday), when the Soviets anounced the launch of Sputnik1.

Yuri Gagarin became his first revered hero/icon, in 61. In 62, having become a, Defender of the Realm, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, he could be heard strutting his stuff in Germany, to the strains of: youtube.com/watch?v=SQdDjy1U … re=related

The police no longer bother responding, when perturbed onlookers tell them theres this old codger, stood on the pavement, staring up at the starry night sky. They tell them, "Leave him, hes harmless…relatively. Hes on his way home from The Red Lion. What ever you do...dont feed him Guiness or Jameson Irish Whiskey...youll never get rid of him."

One more licence, Apollo, and you`ll be legal.
Take care
Fluff

Didn’t know whether to put this link here or under the beat depression thread.

Fluff: tell your human to check this out.

If you want KB to finish Scrivener 2 quickly you need to send him large quantities of Kronenbourg Blonde.

He is too shy to say this so I will say it for him.

Paul
No good deed goes unpunished. I feel a ban hammer coming on.

Shy me arse!! :open_mouth:

Your response is a bit cryptic.

Would you care to expand the comment “me arse.”

Paul
“opinions are like arseholes, we all have one. My observation is that many people have multiple arseholes.”

Tis a Stockporteseianesque-ish expression meaning, “I don`t believe that statement, to be totally accurate.”
Fluff

Dearest Fluff,

Got it.

But for what exactly will I be legal?

Apollo16

The mousehound can`t answer your query at the moment, she hijacked my posh swivel chair, and is snoring her big fat head off!

Ill answer for her. The worlds your lobster, baby. Depends how rabid your sense of adventure is! :smiling_imp:
Vic

I think Vic-K is still set on the notion that the Apollo Command Module’s flight computer can run three copies of Scrivener at once.

I, for one, and not convinced.
