3.5 Dark Mode Bug: Outliner view text color for Label and Status are black-on-black

Hi,

I like to use Scrivener in dark mode (since the rest of my system is also in dark mode), and everything works great so far. But I noticed one small inconsistency in the UI that is mildly bothering me.

In the Outliner view, where you can see your documents with their labels and statuses, the text content inside the “Status” and “Label” drop-downs appear black-on-black.

When I manually change the Outliner’s background color to a brighter color in its settings, I notice that he text color seems to change to white upon setting a bright background, which seems like unintentional behavior.

(I apologize for the lack of pictures, I recently created my forum account and can’t attach media yet.)

I am running Sequoia 15.7.1, but have experienced this on 15.7 as well. I have not tested on Tahoe.

Is anyone else experiencing this? This is happening to me on new projects as well regardless of templates (that I’ve tried.) I have changed very little of the settings from their defaults.

Regards

I would like to add, the black-on-black text problem only occurs for the Label and Status font. The “Section Type” text is the correct color.

Are you using the grey selection as your system-wide accent colour? If so, you’re seeing an Apple bug, unfortunately. They broke the black/white adaptive text colour code, inverted it so it selects the wrong option, but only if you use grey, and seemingly only for this type of control. I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

(And no, macOS 26 won’t fix it, that’s where I first noticed it, and so we’ve only just filed it with them.)

Yes! Grey selection color was exactly it. Switching to a different color solved the problem. I do wonder when a fix is coming from Apple on this.

Regardless I’m very glad that there was such a simple workaround, thank you.
