I’m using the latest version of Scrivener & windows 11. I have been doing fine but all of a sudden (and I don’t know what I have done to trigger this) Add text is grayed out when I want to add a character to my list in screenplay format. I added one a few minutes ago, no problem. I am in Binder view, not collections. Thanks
Perhaps your currently selected document is in the trash ?
(By “add text” you mean add a “new text” document ?)
I know you mentioned you are “in” the Binder, but just to check and make sure that doesn’t mean you can merely see it, but the keyboard is off in some rare place that doesn’t allow creating a new item, does this work?
- Click on the “Characters” folder in the Binder.
- Press
Enter
to make a new text item.
And if that works, is whatever you are indicating still grey? And if so, what is it that you are indicating, what part of the window? There are well over half a dozen ways to make new text items.
Do you mean that my whole binder is in the trash? And yes I mean new text. I had previously gone up to the menu bar and clicked on + . Now that is grayed out
I barely understand what you are saying so I can only repeat my actions. I am in the corkboard version of the binder. Below Research there is a character folder. In that I have already entered a number of different characters through a process by which I click on the Character folder go up to the menu bar and click on +. then I select new text and a new corkboard box opens up as does a little page icon under Characters. But now, as I am trying to indicate, nothing happens because the + area on the menu bar is grayed out. I have followed your instructions and pressed “enter” and nothing happens.
Wait, I think I see. My entire Character’s folder has been subsumed and now appears under trash. How do I move it back so that it, like the rest of the screenplay is no longer in the trash?
Drag and drop.
Or use Ctrl + arrows.
Or right click → Move to
