Adding new keyboard shortcut - possible? how?

Hi there. Is there a way to add a new keyboard shortcut (Windows, Scrivener 3)?

Specifically, I’d like to add a keyboard shortcut for lists / bullet points. I use these a lot, and would really like to do this without taking my hands off the keyboard.

(And yes, I’m aware of Markdown. I’m not trying to write in Markdown.)

Hi hefolsom,

I see no shortcut options available for lists in File > Options > Keyboard, except Prev/Next List Style, which won’t get you what you want.

I think your options at this point are:

  1. Use the menu shortcut Alt+R > L > arrow down to your bullet choice. (This is what I do. It’s clunky, but thankfully I don’t need to do many lists. )

  2. Set up your own shortcut with a tool like AutoHotKey. (If I ever start using Lists more, I’ll probably do this.)

  3. Add a request in the Wish List forum for this feature.

Best,
Jim

This is possible in Mac! Assigning or Changing Keyboard Shortcuts / macOS / Knowledge Base - Literature and Latte Support

I would like to be able to do this in Windows too. I know that Scrivener is always running out of time on their updates, and I don’t want them to switch to a subscription model of software like everything else, but I would pay for slightly more frequent updates! Also not to have Windows treated like a second-class citizen. (I’m a programmer, I know how hard it is to write cross-platform, so I know what I’m asking when I complain about that  But I really would like this feature)

Abigail,

If you’re trying to set a shortcut for bullets/lists, it appears to be possible in Options > Keyboard – scroll down to the Formats section and choose the bullet you want to give it a shortcut.

Otherwise, have you tried AutoHotkey which provides a more generalised shortcut capability?
