Affinity have one of their 50% discount offers running for the next 48 hours.
I regularly use Photo and from time to time Designer and Publisher. While they don’t have every feature of the Adobe offerings, they also don’t have the obscene monthly charge.
They are also offering a 6 month free trial for those not ready to purchase on the bet that after 6 months most people won’t want to go back to the alternative.

I too use Photo and Designer from time to time, and have Publisher, which I have used. I keep them all up to date.
I must admit, though, that Photo is my third port of call for image manipulation. My first choice is always Graphic Converter, which I’ve been using since I got my first Mac in about 1990. Next, I go for one of the Topaz AI apps, Gigapixel AI for enlarging, Sharpen AI, or Photo AI for camera RAW photos. But for some things, including batch resizing down iPhone photos to attach to emails, Affinity Photo is good.
But in all, it is a terrific suite of well-integrated software at a good price, even without offers like this. Apart from truly high-end publishing, or requirements imposed by companies you work with, they will do the job at a fraction of the cost of the rivals.

I have to own up and say I use Pixelmator Pro for resizing images. It’s great.
I think I’ve nearly tried them all:
- I had Photoshop up to CS1 but then got priced out of the market;
- I had Lightroom for a while, but gave that up when Adobe went subscription;
- I had Apple Aperture, but that went to the wall before I had really got into it;
- there was a really good little app by an independent developer in the noughties—I can’t remember either name—but it was really good and easy to use, but it disappeared after a few years and my wife still misses it;
- there was LightZone, cross platform, which took a completely different approach to editing based on Ansel Adams “zones”—sadly, it too has disappeared but that was my go to for a while;
- I tried Pixelmator when it first came out, but couldn’t get on with it at all;
- Then I got Luminar and followed it through several versions, but ended up not using it and resenting the continuous call on my wallet;
- Affinity Photo I got at the time of their original discounted bundle, as I already had my eye on Publisher as I hadn’t been able to find a replacement for InDesign;
- And then I have the Topaz AI apps… Photo AI, Gigapixel AI, Sharpen AI and Video AI.
But all the time, I’ve had Graphic Converter (Poor man’s Photoshop!) which I’ve continually turned to, as I know how to do almost everything I need in that. So, if I’m merely resizing a single image (not enlarging it to any great extent), I’ll do it in Graphic Converter, but I recently discovered that for doing batch resizing, the Affinity Photo interface is a lot less complex than Graphic Converter.

I jumped on the six month trial. That gives me enough time to get used to the new mechanics. The software is very powerful and capable of every task I need. Six month free trial is definitely worth a try if you want to leave the never ending subscription model imo.
Also worth noting is their pretty relaxed update cycle – and I hope they stick to it in the future – that never felt like a subscription in disguise via yearly “major versions” or such shenanigans. (Years between 1.x and 2.x: Designer ~8, Photo: ~7.5, Publisher: ~3.5)
Not sure if this is a new promotion, but I just discovered it: Affinity Free For Schools | Downloads
