Alphabetical file ordering.

I’d quite like an option to sort research items such as PDF files and web URLs into alphabetical order automatically.

There’s not an automatic options for this, but you can do it manually whenever you need it. Select the folder in the binder and then choose Documents > Sort to sort its subdocuments in ascending or descending order. If you only want the sort temporarily, you can view the folder in outliner mode and toggle the column headers for ascending sort, descending sort, and no sort (binder order). This lets you sort by other criteria like label or status, which can be handy, and it can be applied to the binder to make it permanent by selecting the items in the outliner while the sort is in effect and dragging them back to their original location in the binder. For a basic alphabetical sort based on the title, though, the Sort command is all you need.

Thanks MimeticMouton, I have to admit that Scrivener pretty much has it all and it’s a fantastic writing tool. I’ve just been too busy actually writing to really spend time getting to grips with all the features, so I haven’t even come close so far to making full use of all the wonderful features.

I was about to post a request for this feature when I saw this old post. If it were possible to add an option for an automatic sort to a future version, I would be extremely grateful. At present, I often forget to sort after adding new documents, then have trouble finding them in the binder (because they’re at the bottom of the list and I may have added many others since) – having the option to sort automatically would be a minor, but very welcome, time-saver.

Thanks.
