I was wondering if anyone has used Scrivener to write within the APA Style guidelines.
Maybe a template with the document structure and layout, and a way to export a document formatted like LyX does with the APA templates, perhaps.
Also, could Keith consider having a “Thesis mode” writing, where instead of the word “Synopsis” on the Index Card, we would have “Notes” or something more academic looking
Have you considered using MultiMarkdown? One of its primary goals is the easy production of LaTeX documents, and is integrated quite nicely with Scrivener. When compiling it will create heading depth according to the Binder outline and so forth. If you already use LyX, then you have the hard part done (installing a TeX distribution).
There is not a built-in APA converter stylesheet, by default it uses the memoir class, but this wouldn’t be too hard to conjure; probably just a wrapper XSLT that substitutes the default preamble for the APA stuff.
An alternative method, if you don’t want to mess with XSLTs, is to just use LyX as the final production platform. In my experience Scrivener+MMD->LaTeX->LyX is an exceptionally nice workflow. Better than you get with most word processors, as there is a 100% document feature and semantics transfer.
Synopsis: “a brief summary or general survey of something: a synopsis of the accident”
What’s not academic about that? The index card certainly isn’t roomy enough to hold extensive notes, it’s only really useful in jogging your memory as to the contents of the document it is summarizing.
In the shell of a nut? Yeah! But, you should bear in mind, that, not, to ask `em, is a kind of suppression/repression. Could have iffy psychological consequences. Kinda, ‘Catch 22’…init?
