An excellent dictation program for Scrivener: OpenWhispr

Hello, everyone. Sometimes, users mention their need for dictation software and its integration with Scrivener. One of the advantages of Scrivener for macOS is its integration with Apple’s built-in dictation feature.

Just today I discovered a very interesting application that can serve as an alternative for Windows and Linux (it works perfectly running Scrivener via Wine and, of course, on MacOS): OpenWhispr.

This cross-platform application allows you to install various AI models locally or run them directly from cloud to dictate, take notes, and translate on the fly.

You can activate dictation using a shortcut, and the result will appear wherever your cursor is positioned. It should be noted, however, that the dictation must first be stopped so that the program can process the words and add them.

It’s free (no cost) for local use. So, if you have a device with sufficient GPU power, you can enjoy a pretty decent utility without compromising your privacy.

Here’s the GitHub page for this project:

Best regards.
