Anything to share about Scrivener 3.0?

This tweet twitter.com/ScrivenerApp/status … 1037144064 makes it sound like it won’t be available in time for NaNo. :frowning:

NaNo doesn’t concern me all that much, except I was excited by the prospect it was going to be released soon. I really hope they weren’t serious about the hint that we all have to wait due to the Windows users. I really, really hope that was a joke. :frowning:

I’ll go back to being cynical about the release happening anytime in the near future and maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised. lol.

Cath, I think it may have been taken the wrong way. The Mac Version was always going to be released months before the Windows version – they’ve stated that explicitly several times and there’s been no word from L&L that they’ve changed their mind on this. As far as I can tell, things are still on track for the original ‘release within 3 months’ they said in September.

BTW Beta testers are still using the version which expires on 31st October (which by the way is far more robust and of higher quality than many programs which have been fully released for years — yes I am looking at you Sky Desktop). We don’t yet know whether there will be another after that, but I do know they’re working hard to get the final version out as fast as they can.

I believe the bet was that the first looser had to do all his writing using only pencil and paper for a month! Right?

Aw… But we are happy with a pure text website if only we can get Scrivener 3 nooooow… :frowning:

Also, the current beta is fully localized, which means that we are CLOSE!

Just so you (and anyone else reading this) are aware, if your daughter lives in the same household as you, you can share the same license… so long as you don’t have more than the maximum number of macs allowed by the license between you. If you purchase through the app store, family sharing allows you and your family to install software from each others’ purchase history.

See the very first (plain-english) paragraph of section 1 of the direct-purchase license:

I just found this little snippet on Nanowrimo.org, in their description of Scrivener for the 2017 Nanowrimo:

So, at the most, one month to go, and in time, sorta, for Nanowrimo!

Wait, how does Nano know when it’ll be released? Is that mere speculation? Well, I suppose anything aside from pertinent statement from L&L would be.

The statement was written by L&L, and published by Nano. It is signed “Keith (Scrivener’s creator) and the L&L Team”.

Wow. Nice. I suppose that’s I must wait a little while longer, then.

I fear this new version is yet another nefarious distraction from actually writing.

It could all be a trick, you know,…

Version 3 could just be an idea cooked up by that silly brit to see how long he could string all of us gullible english majors along, dreaming about non-existent software that, with miraculous new coding, will write our drivel for us.

Yes, Version Three, like Plan Nine from Outer Space, could just be a terribly written script, presented for the amusement of one man only.

If he’s vile enough, that could be what’s going on.

Well, that’s an old trick, as Keith mentioned in 2014 that a 64-bit version of Scrivener (Scrivener 3 is the first 64-bit version of the app) would be out “next year” (2015).

I’m cautiously tempering my hopes for a release this year (given how iOS also had a long gestation), but not putting out the bunting quite yet.

The features mentioned in the blog posts promise some significant improvements, and it will be nice to get away from the slight clunkiness of using Scrivener 2 on High Sierra (Force Touch loveliness beckons, for example).

I think one “trick” comment here was said in an attempt at humor. The other looks to me to be a cheap shot. Maybe that wasn’t the intention. I’m not trying to stir the pot or start a flame war. Just want to get my two cents in.

If it was a slur-- Erring in prognostication is just that, erring. Creative people are often enthusiastic about possibilities and their implementation. Reality and the desire for excellence in the end product (including its ancillary services) eventually become the rightful judges of when the project actually gets completed.

I’ve only known of Keith and L&L for a little over a few years. I’m a bookworm, fairly new to electronic writing and careful of where I spend my money so I’ve read (and continue to read) quite a bit of what Keith and company have written. Besides occasionally stepping on their own shoelaces, they’re human after all, nothing I’ve read has ever led me to question their integrity. The evidence is there to find (one of the advantages of the forum) for anyone who wishes to do so. There’s many discussions had on this board, including tough ones, that are answered openly and honestly rather than them being artfully avoided.

That same personal integrity was used to make Scrivener 2 and now V3. I’m sure patience will be rewarded.

New toys are always fun, so I will definitely buy Scriv 3 as soon as it is available…

… but I have to admit that so far I haven’t been hampered by any lack of features in Scriv 2. The only thing that is hampering my writing is… myself. And that problem can hardly be cured by L&L and Scriv 3.

Nevertheless, as I said above I will buy version 3 when it goes public, without requesting a discount, because it would feel wrong to ask for a discount for something that I am buying not out of need but because I simply want to. And I think they can use the money.

Well I definitely lost the office pool on S3 release. I had it pegged for sure to be in time for NaNoWriMo.

I would like to say however that S2 has been an incredibly feature rich and bug free ecosystem for writing. I would hate to see anything rushed out the door, but I know that’s not how the L&L team rolls.

So we wait like children for Christmas. I’ll keep putting out fresh milk and cookies for Keith each night and contain my disappointment each morning when my stocking is still empty.

Never in my life have I seen so many adults holding their breath 'til blue, and rubbing their fingers together “please, please, please…”

I am, of course, one of them.

Are we there yet…are we there yet… are we there yet…

How about now?

… Where was my teaser blog post this week? lol

Cath, I’m totally with you on this (and I suspect we aren’t alone). I keep looking at the blog site for something new.

I won’t admit how many times I refreshed the blog and Scrivener 2 page looking for any kind of S3 morsel.

Since KB, Ioa, LAP, David and Julia it seems were all taking part in last weekend’s NiaD, and perhaps others of the team under names I don’t recognise, it doesn’t surprise me there hasn’t been another post on the blog recently. And the eagle-eyed among you, if you read the thread on NiaD7 will observe that Pigfender has made a Scrivener 3 project for it available for download and did the compiling to ePub and mobi formats using Scrivener 3, so it must be ready for release soon.

Patience is a virtue, we are told. Nevertheless, I hope it won’t be too long now.

Mark,
Just a long term user.
