Hello, I’m using Scrivener in dark mode (system default) but use the main window in bright. However, the quick reference pane is still dark, so I wanted to change that. Going to Scrivener → Preferences → Appearances → Quick reference does not help since I can only change the background there, but not the text. (So I will have white text on white background, not so great…) Any idea how I should do that? Thank you!
The documentation for the “Keep Main Editors Light” setting is found in §4.3.2 of the user manual PDF. There you will find that this only impacts the main editors, which are only the two splits in the project window (along with their copyholders, if applicable). Quick Reference panels always use the current light/dark look.
Thanks for the reply. I guess that means i cannot change the quick reference panel…?
I’m not sure how to answer that. It sounds like you already found the places in Preferences where you can change it, so what do you mean by not being able to change it?
meaning: I cannot change it so that it is different from the general current light/ dark mode.
Correct, sorry, I’m still confused about the nature of the question, I think. What it seems like you’re asking is something I already stated above:
There you will find that this only impacts the main editors , which are only the two splits in the project window (along with their copyholders, if applicable). Quick Reference panels always use the current light/dark look.
(Emphasis added.)
Sorry for articulating myself so unclearly . I wanted to use the dark mode (in general) but change the appearance of the quick reference panel (and only the quick reference panel) to bright. As I learnt from your reply that’s unfortunately not possible, as the quick reference panel always uses the current general appearance. My second comment was not really a question, just reconfirming I got that right (and expressing my disappointment perhaps). Thanks for clarifying anyways
Okay, I played around with it a bit, and forgot about one specific combination of settings you can do: basically the QR panels text colour is set by whatever the Main Editor: Colors: Text setting is using. So if you change that to disable the text colour override entirely (or choose something dark to override with), then you can set the QR panel editor background light (and probably the main editor background as well).
Of course if you do that you can’t switch to dark editors at any point, you’re essentially at that point hard setting the editors to be bright with the theme colours themselves, rather than using the toggle that lets you have a separate colour scheme that is bright.
