When Attempting to compile a word docx and change the format of the sections via the “Assign Section Layouts” button the application freezes up and crashes with one of my projects.
It allowed me to select the layout once. Then when I try to change it again, the application freezes up and I can get nowhere. I have restarted and reinstalled the application to no avail.
I am able to change compile setting in other projects but it does not work anymore on this particular project for some reason. I have not changed any default settings yet, or styles. Not sure why it keeps crashing for this particular project.
Is there anyway to reset a projects compile settings?

Suggest copy the compile format on a project that works and name version 2 ( or whatever) try working in another project if works then close scriv. As long as saved as my project then try again when reopen
Yes, this is how you would reset your compile settings:
Use the File ▸ Show Project in File Explorer.
Close the project, and then back in the Explorer window that opened, navigate into the project’s “Settings” subfolder.
Drag the “compile.xml” file out of the project.
Load the project and try changing section layouts again.
Since you haven’t done much configuration yet, you can probably just discard that file, but if you’d like to send it to us for examination, that would be appreciated. While the file itself may be damaged, avoiding crashing as a result is always a good idea! You can either PM it to me here, or send it to tech support.
