What do they mean by “when”? How about always?
I can’t be the only one checking the calendar if this is the one date each year when an article is most likely meant as a joke. Because I can’t tell by reading them anymore.
I wonder what a revised edition of Mein Kampf will look like after they get through with it?
The vast majority of comments were enraged at the idea. It seems that only people from Berkeley on the “Left Coast” think this is a great idea.
Impossible task. Even if you remove 99 percent of the problematic stuff, the remaining page is still written by literally Hitler. So you need to add two volumes of trigger warnings in front of it.
Readers Digest condensed and usually less graphic too. We should have drawn the line there back then that was 100 years ago!
Of course, I don’t think they were editing out words like “Fat” or “Ugly.” I can appreciate not shaming people for their appearance or abilities. However, I also think that character descriptions are necessary and probably should not be altered by others or Ai.
I think if it is obviously an inappropriate phrase the offended person should be able to protest the inappropriate writing. My suggestion would be to rip off the covers and send them back to the publisher if we are offended by specific phrases and ask for a refund!
Example of what I personally find problematic: Let’s say if someone says: “That ‘fat pig’ wouldn’t be that way, if they ate less.” I would find that offensive for obvious reasons but for also for perpetuating False Narrative’s. The vast majority of people with significant weight gain actually have an underlying medical condition (Known or Undiagnosed) that is responsible for inhibiting the body’s ability to compensate for bad diets. Typically, our bodies will maintain a reasonable weight regardless of diet. You know those “Norms” that can eat anything and always stay thin?! That’s real people! So, I could use other examples but that one is a real problem. Even Doctors perpetuate that Myth!
Now if the comment is “in character” I should hope that that character is then villainized by another character for being a Jerk. (Insert much stronger language here!)
~ Villainized should be in “The Dictionary of Lost Words.” I think, it should be in every dictionary! - Sorry, new subject.
