Auto Numbering for Element

Hi there. I’m new to the program. Love it!

Forgive me if this has answered before, but i have not found the answer. I’m trying to format a comic book script so that it auto-numbers my character element. I would like to be able to pull up the character element and it will start numbering each character element on the page. I like doing this so the letterer can get the correct number of word balloons. For example

PANEL 2
Description of the panel goes here.

1. JOE blah, blah, blah, blah

2. BILL blah, blah, blah, blah

Basically trying to figure out how to have the <$n> inserted each time i select the character element. It can be done on compile, which is fine, i don’t need to see it during the writing process. Hoping i’m making sense…

Thanks,
Allen

You wouldn’t be able to quite do this during compile because you can only insert stuff like that into the title line for an element, rather than the body text (or bits within the body text). So at best, even if you put each statement in its own index card (which would probably be a bit unwieldy to work with!), you’d get something more along the lines of:

JOE blah, blah

BILL blah blah.

Are you using the scriptwriting feature? If so this wouldn’t work, but if you are just typing freeform, you could try using the list numbering feature in the Format Bar. It just works like a normal word processor where it adds a new number each time you press return, and inserts a number if you add a line in the middle.
