I’m Japanese and mainly use Japanese.
The Auto-size note setting is reflected in English words,
but it’s not reflected in Japanese words.
I have to Auto-Fit from the menu every time.

Thank you for the report. I should note that the software is not translated. I believe the menu entries that are in Japanese are stock Apple entries.
The Auto-size notes setting: Yes, this does not seem to work right with Japanese language set for the system. It does not seem to matter which keyboard I use (I get the problem with English keyboard input too). I will make sure we have this problem on our list.

I restored a previous version of Scapple.app (1.4.1) from Time Machine and no problems occurred.
It seems that a bug has occurred since Scapple.app (1.4.2).

Thank you for this piece of information. Looking at the list of changes in 1.4.2, nothing immediately pops out as a potential culprit. The closest thing might be the fix to a crash when using nothing but emoji in a note. There is maybe some similarity there in the video you shared with us (but I would imagine you see this happening for multiple words, not just single-word entries).
Whatever the case it may help us track down what changed.
