automatic indentation

some of the documents I have have automatic indentation, and some I have do not.

How can I toggle this? For some docs I don’t want it to indent automatically in the beginning of the doc.

Ah, then I found this simplyscrivener.com/tag/indents/ which explains it. Although the ruler is now under View > Text Editing > Show Ruler instead

The Format → Paragraph → Tabs and Indents menu allows you to set both tabs and first line indents.

Once you’ve formatted one paragraph to work the way you want, you can use the Project → Project Settings → Formatting pane to make it the default for this project, or Scrivener → Scrivener Preferences → Editing → Formatting to make it the default Scrivener-wide.

Then, the Documents → Convert → Text to Default Formatting command will reformat existing text to the new default.
