Best Keyboards for Writers in 2026 - Expert Recommendations

I researched about the best keyboards for writers over the past few days because I spend several hours daily writing and need something that is both comfortable and durable. I went through Reddit threads, Amazon reviews, and several writing blogs to find a good fit for long typing sessions.
Based on what I’ve read, these two keyboards seem to be top picks:

Logitech MX Keys S Wireless Keyboard

Keychron K10 Pro Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard

https://www.amazon.com/Keychron-Mechanical-Programmable-Hot-swappable-Compatible/dp/B0B2DP88SD

However, I am having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs. I’m mostly focused on typing—essays, stories, journaling—and occasionally use software like Scrivener or Word. I’m looking for something that won’t tire my hands after long sessions and is reliable in the long run.
So which one should I go for? Or if you have another recommendation, I’d love to hear it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

The K10 will be louder. Much louder. (Although you could mod it, replace the switches with silent ones later on, etc.) If that’s something that bothers you, or others in your vicinity, go with the Logitech.

Also, the keycaps on this Keychron model are not shine-through = not backlit. But again, you can replace them with ones that are.

I guess the common theme here is: If you almost like this Keychron model (and it has to be this one specifically, and not another that’s exactly what you want), you can still make it perfect yourself. If you almost like the Logitech, there’s nothing you can do to improve it.

It seems counterintuitive, but personally I find typing on full-size keys (like the K10 has) less fatiguing and also faster / more accurate.

Unhelpfully, I think if you ask 100 writers, you’ll get 100 recommendations! Keyboards are a personal choice: only you can know which one is best for your needs.

My only recommendation is, if possible, try one out first - if an IRL friend has a particular one, for example.

Personally, I quite like clunky keyboards with clicky keycaps, but the past 5 years or so I’ve almost exclusively written on a MacBook Pro built-in keyboard (so, I suppose I’m not fussy).

Keychron has worked well for me. The Brown keys in the Amazon one are not too noisy IMHO.

Do check their website as they have a wide range.

I like the touch of the stock Apple keyboards that ship with their desktop computers. Only problem is they aren’t durable enough. I start to get key failures within a couple of years. Any recommended alternatives?

Durability sounds like I want mechanical switches, but I don’t want loud clickiness.

Keychron do a scissor switch low profile a bit like the Apple one. Haven’t tried it.

Pity you’re not in Aus. I have a number of Apple Keyboards that are just hanging around as emergency ones, worried and wireless.

That’s an expensive combination (the market is just warming up to this concept). Check out the Nuphy Air75 V3 with “Blush Nano” switches.

The Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

Yes, same here. Mac mini, 27 inch LG screen, and standard Apple keyboard with Touch ID and an Apple mouse. Touch ID is worth definitely worth it for me.

Yes, I know the Apple keyboard is nice. The point of the post is that I wear them out more quickly than I would like.

I had damaged keys and printed labels wearing off the keys on butterfly notebook keyboards, but it was easy to buy replacement keys on the Internet, pull the old one out and stick the new one in. I don’t think that’s possible on the current ones? Not that I would want to go back to the butterfly keys.
