Binder sidebar

I now have a sizable blank white space above the the binder and collection tabs, Those tabs used to be right at the top of the sidebar with no blank white space above them. That blank white space is a waste of screen space. I have not the foggiest idea what I have done to cause this to happen, and no idea how to rectify the situation. The obvious idea of just dragging the whole thing up a ways didn’t work.

I’d appreciate any suggestions on fixing this.

Thanks for your time.

Ken

Try the solution suggested in this thread by AmberV:

https://forum.literatureandlatte.com/t/the-binder-appearance-in-the-updated-version/48260/1

Hi, Kinsey. Thanks for the direction. Unfortunately, re-downloading (twice) did not solve the problem. I opened up a dummy new project and the binder appears how it shoiuld. So the problem would seem to be with this particular project.

On the other point AmberV made about re-setting the Project’s layout, I went to Project>Project Settings and then was at a loss what to do from there, since none of the menu items presented at that point refer directly to “Project Layout”.

I shutdown after that, and re-started the Mac. Nope. Problem still there.

In the thread you kindly directed me to a suggerstion was made that I might have Collections “open”, but I don’t know how I would determine whether they are indeed “open”, Or where I would go and what I would do if I selected one of the menu items.

I am very reluctant to just randomly start changing things I don’t at all understand. I fear the chaos I might unknowlingly intrroduce into the Project and then have to try to remedy/undo those changes.

Thanks for your time, Kinsey.

Any other suggestions? They would be much appreciated.

To reset the project’s layout, follow these instructions:

I’m on Windows Scriv, so can’t test this directly, but based on the Mac user manual, Section 4.1.3 The Binder, you can toggle collections on/off in the Scriv menu: View > Show Collections.

If that doesn’t help, you may want to upload a screenshot so the Mac experts here can see exactly what’s going on.

Best,
Jim

OK. Kept picking at it. The icon at the extreme top left (under the red and yelloe dots to close or minimize the Project) has a sub-menu, the second optionof which is Hide Collections.

If I then select that item (Hide Collections) the Binder goes right back to the top and, as you would expect, no Collections are shown above the Binder tab… When I then choose to Show Collections, the blank white space re-appears above the Binder and Collection tabs.

Colour me puzzled. Thanks in advance for any suggestions that might remedy this.

Have you tried dragging the Binder header up?

Kewms (Katherine)

That did the trick perfectly ! (I’d have grown old and gray looking for that by myself.)

Thank you so much.

And thanks to everybody else who took time to post replies. It is very much appreciated

Ken

PS Silverdagon. I did try dragging the binder up. It seemed like the most thing to try, but I couldn’t do so. Thanks for the suggestion

Silverdragon, I just re-tried the drag operation, and with the image you posted of exactly where to drag from, it worked!

I had been trying to drag from within the binder, rather than from the precise point your image showed. So, now I know how to drag the binder. Thank you.

Ken

You’re welcome!

thank you very much

Either …

  1. View → Hide Collections

  2. Hover your cursor on the line underneath the word Binder until the pointer turns into a grab handle, which you can then select and drag to resize the space
