Latest Scrivener 3 on Windows 11:
Scrivener is preventing me from creating Shortcuts to Audio and Video Files - which impacts my projects and leaves my project with links in documents that don’t work.
I’ve been regularly importing various media with “Research Files as Shortcuts” .
The issues I have with the shortcut - approach - is with Video and Audio i.e. mp4, mp3.
When I import in Video/Audio files as shortcuts everything looks fine…
i.e. I can create links, embed in Documents, open in Quick Reference Panel etc…
(1) But if close the project and reopen, the Video/Audio File is No longer a shortcut
(its missing the shortcut icon to its left), it shows as an embedded audio file and clicking on it or any item in the binder, crashes Scrivener. At this point I cannot use Scrivener…but I can recover…

And you have to remove them 1 by 1, between crashes!!!
Scrivener becomes unusable - it continuously crashes after trying to delete each video/audio shortcut.
(2) I have reproduced it several times with different MP4/MP3 files.
(3) I can reopen the project but unless I reset the interface, I can No longer click in the Binder without Scrivener immediately crashing.
(4) To get back the ability to use my Binder and prevent crashing…
Step (a) I must hold down ALT and click File → Clear Project and Clear Interface settings.
Step (b) Then carefully move “the now embedded” video/audio file to trash
CTRL click Trash and empty it. If necessary - repeat Step (a)
I didn’t Notice this for days, I tend to rarely close Scrivener usually put my computer to sleep.
It’s when I did some maintenance, like Backup and Restore and Create Image Files, I noticed this problem because I tend to reboot and restart all applications I continuously have running for days.
