Bug: Edit search collection does not recall original criteria

Windows 10, Scrivener 3.1.4.1

According to the manual, section 10.2.4, the user should be able to recall and edit the original criteria specified for a search collection. Unfortunately, at least in some cases, the original criteria cannot be recalled.

Here are steps to recreate, starting from a fresh copy of the Tutorial project.

1. Limit the project search criteria to Status.

2. Do a project search for ‘To Do’. Save the search as a collection.

3. Close the search. Reset Search Options.

4. Limit the project search criteria to Text.

5. Do a project search for ‘the’.

6. Select the search collection named To Do. This should recall the original criteria of the search, but it does not. The original search collection was over Status, but now Text from the prior search is also selected. This is the bug.

The workaround is to Reset Search Options prior to recalling the search collection.

I wonder if it is related to this other odd behavior I stumbled upon a while back. – (Not directly me, but rather a user I was trying to help.)

If you search within a search turned collection, you can’t get out of that new search, unless you remember exactly what were the search words (and criterias) that originally spawned the said collection.

Can't erase search parameters

Ok. I think I see. Perhaps not your issue, but likely a bug nonetheless. If you search within a search result collection, you can’t reset it afterwards. If you don’t remember what was the word or group or words that initially spawned it, you can’t get to see all of it no more. Ever. (Or so it seem.) @AmberV I’d expect clearing the search field to restore the collection to its initial state. It doesn’t. Clicking this magnifying glass keeps recalling the last searched word within it. Not the…

The bug I’m reporting does seem to be related to the one reported in that other thread, but going in the reverse direction, if that makes sense.

In my bug, the current search criteria are partially overwriting the search collection’s criteria, which is incorrect behavior.

In the other thread, the search collection criteria are supposed to overwrite the current search criteria, but do not. (If I’m understanding @AmberV ’s explanation).

Seems the devs have work to do on search collections.
