Bug: Instacrash after 3.2 upgrade

I’ve installed it on my sorted out 2015 iMac running 10.15.7. No problems to date, I’m in the process of installing it on my 2011 10.13,6 MacBook Pro.

EDIT: On the MBP, it took quite a bit of time to come up with the usual “downloaded from the internet” warning, then opened and on a quick check all seems OK. I’ll use it in earnest later and post if anything crops up.

FWIW, the original download of 3.2 and the version above both work.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

macOS 11.0.1 (20B29)

I believe I’m required to hate it on principal. So even though I haven’t seen it…

I HATE THE NEW ICON!!!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Downloaded and installed the zip file and everything loads up.

Only issue I get, is trying to open an exported .docx file.

I can preview the .docx and open it in pages.app and textedit.app but not Microsoft Word.

Have transferred the .docx to a windows pc and get the same error.

Apart from that, everything looks really good.

Could you please zip up and attach or send me (mac.support@literatureandlatte.com FAO Keith) a sample project with this issue, so that I can test exporting a Word file from it? This version uses a new .docx exporter by default.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith

Sorry to be a bit thick but I just clicked Scrivener>Check for updates and got:

Automatic updates have been disabled until the bug reported in this thread has definitely been fixed.

Thanks, I spotted the other thread after posting in here.

Yep, working here.

I replied to your email Keith.

Thanks,

Goose

No crash here whatsoever with the fixed version.

But going into and out of Composition Mode causes flickering. (10.15.7, MacMini)

3.2 is now live again as the crash seems sorted.

suavito - composition mode is working fine for me, although I do see a tiny flash at the top of the screen on 10.15.7; no flash on Big Sur, though. I think it’s an Apple issue with the fade animation, as I’m just calling a standard animation.

All the best,
Keith

sauvito, you can probably dodge that problem by switching off the Fade between modes effect in Behaviors: Composition Mode.

Well… I’ve seen the new icon now…

I HATE how much I like THE NEW ICON!!!

Thanks Amber, switching off the fade fixed it.

And Keith: Workarounds for workarounds for bugs—sigh… Where will that road lead? Probably to workarounds for workarounds for workarounds for bugs. &c. This is one of the moments I don’t want to be in your or any other programmer’s shoes.

I like it but at the same time it is really stressing out the OCD aspects of my autism because that S looks like it’s sliding right out of the button…

Re: Icon. Believe it or not but I know someone who sees a swastika in the now old icon (and doesn’t like that at all). I tried squinting as hard as I could but never got what she meant. Maybe it’s better now as a part of the “S” is cut off but I don’t dare to ask.

I like the new icon by the way. Something like this used to flash up when launching betas of Scrivener for iOS if I remember correctly. I liked it back then already.

It is based on the iOS icon, yes. The main difference is in execution, the iOS icon is glossy and rather flat, to fit in over there. On the Mac, we have the flexibility to use textures and such, so we went with ink.

Wait until you realise that it is the button sliding away from the ‘S’!

The new version works for me and my previously offending project too. Thanks for the quick fix!

Ha, my ten year-old looked at and said, “Why’s it in the corner”? Think of it as representing a close-up of your text.
