I think this is the right place to post my report. If not, I apologize.
First, let me say that I love this program. It’s been a daily staple in my life since I bought it about a year and a half ago.
… Until I tried using it to write an article in Arabic. The ‘scrivener’ part of the process went well; only minor complaints. But when I exported my finished draft to Word, this happened: all punctuation marks were exported as English punctuation marks, while the text was left (thankfully!) in Arabic. This makes for a huge problem, as you can imagine; look at me now, going over every single quotation mark and bracket and number (oh, the numbers were also exported in English) and manually changing it to Arabic – in a 13,000 word document. (I didn’t consider changing the rest of the punctuation because I don’t want to have a seizure, though it does make for awakward scrolling. Yes, I tried multiple find-replace workarounds to spare myself the manual work; no go. Yes, I tried exporting to more than one format (rtf and doc); same problem.)
I’m quite dependent on and generally pleased with scrivener otherwise, so I’m going to keep using it. But would anyone suggest or try to find a way to prevent this punctuation debacle from happening when exporting from a LTR language to a RTL one? Did I miss an obvious option when exporting?
Thank you,
Hamad
