Hello! I’ve just finished the first novel, and am thinking of ways to make organizing the second novel easier. One thing I thought about was using a calendar to keep track of characters’ birthdays, life events, trips, etc. (my novels are very date-based).
I looked through the wish list and saw the posts about calendars and character pages, so it sounds like there aren’t plans to integrate more of this into Scrivener (which is fine - just noting that I did actually search before speaking!).
I was thinking I’d just utilize a google calendar for my next book, but I’m wondering if someone has a better idea? Something that allows me to keep track of who is where when.
A Scrivener user is actually developing a timeline application (called Aeon) especially for this sort of thing (we’re hoping to make it easy to go back and forth between Scrivener and his app in the long run). He has a sub-section of the “Software by Other Folk” forum here:
It’s still in beta and I believe he still has lots to do, but it’s very promising and so you might want to try it and give him feedback.
All the best,
Keith
P.S. Although there are no plans for a calendar view or timeline in Scrivener, in 2.0 you will be able to add custom text columns to the outliner and sort them. So you could add dates in text format - e.g. “2010-03-29” - to each scene, and then sort by date. I’m hoping this will play particularly well with Aeon eventually.
