Can I create multiple folders at once?

Hi all - new Scrivener user. Wondering if there’s a way to create multiple folders at once - I have notes stored in various places and apps that I wanted to consolidate into Scrivener, and I wanted to sort them into a folder per calendar day. I’ve looked around and don’t see a way, so I’m assuming this can’t be done, but wanted to check before I start doing this manually. Appreciate any guidance!

Hello.
You could make a list of all the specific dates you need (in a blank document, in the editor), with one date per line/paragraph.
Then select a paragraph (triple click, under Windows, the least) and use the Split with selection as title command (as a shortcut, for speed), and split at each. (Yes, one by one, going down your list.)
This will give you a bunch of normal document files in the binder with their respective dates as a title.
Last, select those in the binder and convert them to folders. (Perhaps if you split a folder right off the start it’ll spare you that step. I never really tried.)

Nothing automatic that I can think of. (I mean for the dates.)

If you need something specific for these folders, common to all of them, apply that to the initial file or folder before splitting. The resultings folders will inherit. You won’t have to tweak them over and over.

I can probably get this to work - “Split with selection as title” just doesn’t seem to be available no matter where I’m putting the cursor or what I’m selecting, which may just be user error on my part, but this is definitely going to be quicker than doing it manually!

Where is your file to split located in the binder?

. . . . . . . .

The function can be accessed via a right-click. Not just from the menu.
(Document / Split / with selection as title)

(I’m running the Windows version. It might not be exactly the same for you.)

So this did indeed turn out to be user error - in the process of trying to grab screenshots for you, I highlighted the second row of text, and those menu options showed up - including Split with selection as title. So I think we are good. I’ll say it again, I appreciate the guidance!

You could create a template with Folders set up in a group to use for future needs and just select the template and can add multiple folders at once. You can set up a book template this way with acts, chapters, and scenes with word targets, making it easy to add as needed.

If you can generate a list of the date-titles needed conveniently, you could also contrive to use Scrivener’s Import and Split function* to create a whole set of aptly named documents all at once. Select these then and Convert to Folder.

(*) Supplying in the source doc, for example, a # to signal where each split goes.
