Can I run two instances of Scriverner on my Mac?

I am writing one novel and editing another, both in Scrivener 3. I would like to have both novels running at the same time on my computer, in two separate instances of Scrivener. The program doesn’t seem to allow this. Am I missing something?

Hello icapricorn. You can’t have two installations of the Scrivener software on your computer, but you can open multiple Scrivener projects and switch between them as needed.

Once you’ve opened the first project in Scrivener, you can go to Scrivener’s File menu
and use its commands to open your second project. On the Mac, you can even arrange them as tabs using the Window > Merge All Windows command.

We often have users create a second project and open it side by side with an existing project to copy data to the new project if the first is behaving oddly.

You might also find adding both projects to Scrivener’s Favorites list makes accessing them easier.

Thank you, Ruth. However, when I have book 1 open, and go to the file menu, I chose either OPEN or RECENT PROJECTS to get book 2. Book 2 immediately replaces the first book in the Scrivener window. I don’t get two separate windows (two separate instances). Only one window and one project at a time. I read your advice and I don’t see what I’m doing wrong.

If you click on the second project’s toolbar and drag it to the side, you should see the first project is still open. If that’s not occurring on your computer, then we might want to review your computer’s settings in case a setting is affecting the behavior.

THANK YOU!.
Ruth, it was there all the time, in separate tabs, but I didn’t catch it.
Best… John
