Cannot extract the resource fork for Scrivener project

Hello - I tried opening a back up zip folder for my project with Unarchiver. But I get “Could not extract the resource fork for (my project)” from the bak1 zip file". Why is that? Is it because my project has internally sourced images and sound effects?

  • What happens when you instead use macOS Finder to open and extract the files from the zip file?
  • To where are you attempting to put the extracted files?
  • Where is the zip file located, in a folder synced via a third party sync service?
  • the “bak1 zip” file name is odd as I don’t see how that can be set in the Scrivener backup settings for automatic backup. Maybe I’m missing something here, though. Did you make the backup file some other way? Or are you obfuscating the real name?
  • Does Unarchiver’s support and/or FAQ pages have any guidance about this error? Anything you found from a Google or AI search on that error message ring true to you?

Thanks, rms.

MacOS Finder makes no difference. I’m trying to put the file on my Desktop. I see that old back ups open well with Unarchiver. The change seems to be because (1) I started work with another party via Dropbox and/or (2) we added sound effects and images to Scrivener files. I’m not sure where the file name came from but it seems consistent (more or less) with previous back ups that open. I just sent an inquiry to Unarchiver support. I (happily) don’t need to open the previous problem back ups, but I want to fix the problem in case I do need to open the latest back up. I would happily create a new back up method. I store them in a dedicated folder on my Mac. Maybe Dropbox keeps back ups? I can manually save a copy of my current project to my desktop. I guess I’m looking to make auto-save work?

Solved. I stopped zipping the file. Also, I found how to access the Library folder under users. Thanks

Good it’s resolved, but zip backups may well be a bit more secure and reliable. I don’t know why not working for you. I also put my Scrivener backups in ~/backups/scrivener so that I can easily back them up as part of my normal system backups.

I’ll try that. Thanks
