Lets say I am in total despair. I get the rainbow wheel every time I try to open the app-
I have macOS 15.3.1
scrivner 3.3.6
It started yesterday and with all the regular restarting and updating my mac software without any luck. I get the rainbow wheel anytime I try to open the software. I cannot open it from the files location.
I had never backed up onto dropbox.
Please tell me what buttons to hit to get my work back . Thanks
Start by updating to Scrivener 3.4.
If that doesn’t help, launch Scrivener without any projects by holding the Shift key when the program starts. Then, open your projects one at a time until you find which one is freezing.
Shift key does not work. I cannot open any files without the rainbow wheel. However- two files opened after hours of time.
I am at 2 days of this- feeling mildly hysterical and I have zero computer skills and happy to pay someone to. get my work from its hostage- and find a different software.
I get nothing but the rainbow wheel. When I try to update I get this message:
“Scrivener can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to.”

Hey thanks so much! But I am still with the awful rainbow wheel of despair. I restarted after the install. I get the rainbow wheel as soon as I click on- open recent or if I go into the finder and try to open up the file from there.
