Can't find my Project

I uninstalled my Windows version 1.0 and reinstalled it, based on your advice. Everything seemed fine. But now my project appears to have disapeared. When I open the scrivener icon from my program file or desktop, I get your “Learning Scrivener” document, but I can’t find my project anywhere. Can you help me, please. Peter Gibb

Presumably you mean the projects are no longer listed in the Recent Projects menus? That’s quite all right, and expected after an uninstall. They will be located on your disk wherever you saved them. If you never organised them, they are probably all in My Documents.

I cannot find my book’s files anywhere in the computer. There is not a backup file anywhere. I did not uninstall or upgraded it. The files have been there since 2022 with some editing with not issues. I some times “Save” when I edited something but don’t choose place assuming it goes to the Scrivener folder in the computer. I am very concerned since my book was almost finished.
Can some one help?
Thanks
Ros

Are you using OneDrive or a similar service?

Have you tried using Windows Explorer to search your disk for text that you would expect to find in the project?

The first logical thing to do is select File → Recent Projects in Scrivener and select your project from the list, be it one or many.
The next method would be to open Fie Explorer (Win+E) in Windows and click on the Documents folder. In the search box, type *.SCRIV and hit Enter.
If not in Documents, then click on C:\ (the root of your hard disk) in File Explorer. Again in the search box, type *.SCRIV and hit Enter.
The folders listed with the .SCRIV extension are your Scrivener Projects. Click into the folder you’re looking for and you’ll find a .SCRIVX file that has the same name as the .SCRIV folder. The .SCRIVX file is your project’s control file. Open that file and your project will open.
Since you’re close to finishing your book it is strongly suggested that you familiarise yourself with Scrivener’s backup procedures. Aside from knowing where your work is on your computer, knowledge of backup is the second key tool to have in your personal toolkit to preserve your work.

Agree with Revo. You can also try File > Show application Folder and see if backup is there.
Also look at File > Options > Backup. Here you will see the locations of your backups and your backup settings. Strongly suggest checking the option backup on Project close. This will not find your project location, but you will find the backup. (If zipped- again recommend, then unzip and start a new Scrivener Project Folder OUTSIDE OF your backup folder. I label mine Scrivener Project Folder on the C drive, so easy to find or put on your desktop.
I have several articles on backing up on my website. They might help as well.

Yes, I am using OneDrive involuntarily and could not find any Scrivener’s files there. I did finally find a bunch of files and folders in Documents but with no data. Don’t know what to do with them.

Do you have backups, in theory these should contain all the data to reconstruct the project folder and you need to disable one drive which may not syncing properly and/or make sure the project folder is not designated to be saved by it.
