Can't get page numbers on my compilation

I’ve made a copy of Manuscript (Times). I double click on it to bring up the Compile Format Designer. I select Page Settings | Header and Footer Text. In both First Pages and Main Body, I’ve put <$p> in the center Footer. I even put ‘X’ in the left footer cell to see if a footer is printing at all. Nothing.

What am I missing? I just want page numbers at the bottom! :slight_smile:

How are your Headers and Footers options set? Are you adding the pagenumbers to the wrong section of your book, like fist pages or facing pages? Can we see a screenshot of the options tab?
